Del Potro is an offensive baseliner with a very powerful serve and deep, flat/topspin groundstrokes. His forehand
shot is one of his main strengths and possibly the most powerful in the
game, capable of frequently generating speeds of 100 mph, and he also possesses a very consistent and powerful double-handed backhand.
Del Potro is also comfortable going to the one handed slice backhand,
and also has considerable touch for a bigger player. Del Potro's height
allows him to get a powerful first serve (often clocked in the mid 130s,
and maxing out at 147 mph, and makes it
easier for him to return high topspin balls.
